The Need For Better Shelter
£353 of £1,000 raised
Families and individuals need shelter throughout Africa. Having a place that we can call home and a place where we feel safe and secure is something many take for granted but still, many are living in poverty and do not have adequate shelter. As a result, they are not living a life that is enriched with comfort or happiness and that can prove a challenge for families and individuals.Everyone has a right to feel safe and secure and our aim is to make that possible for as many people as possible.
Hygiene & SanitationThe statistics paint an alarming yet realistic picture of the current situation throughout Africa. As it currently shows, there is over 400 million African who do not have access to clean, running water. Along with this, 300 million people do not have access to drinking water that is also safe and clean. To further add to the unhygienic conditions, around 230 million people defecate in the open and that can lead to disease. There is a significant lack of basic sanitation and unclean water, both of which are adding to the challenge of bringing poverty and disease to an end in one of the poorest countries in the world. The reality is that the solution is not just safe, clean water because this alone will not save lives and it won’t prevent diseases from spreading. As a result, Serving Hands UK is committed to ensuring we provide the right education on hygiene and supplying resources to communities to those who need it in Africa. This can help to improve the current situation and assist the implementation of good sanitation practices. We place a focus on working with families as well as schools and hospitals. This enables us to provide them with the correct tools and knowledge that can help them to understand the importance of good hygiene. Whether it is as simple as the importance of handwashing or bringing an end to open defecation. With your support, we believe that we can make a real difference in the lives of those who are living in poor conditions. We will construct new houses for families, giving them a place that they can call home.
